Finding Sacred Safety: From Survival to Coherence

Understanding the shift from survival bracing to nervous system coherence.

Hiya Traveller,

This past month has been one of the toughest — and most rewarding — periods of my life. I’ve been noticing patterns in myself that I now recognise as what I call survival residue: those quiet loops of anticipation, shame, or overthinking that keep the nervous system braced for problems that may never arrive.

At times, the urge to simply run away from the noise was strong.

But somewhere in the middle of the struggle, something shifted.

Not because things became easier.

But because they became truer.

Turning the Corner

The shift didn’t come through pushing harder or trying to “fix” myself. It came through something much simpler: daily practices and radical acceptance.

This month has also been deeply personal as I begin navigating a late ADHD diagnosis and exploring what support and medication may look like for me. It has been both confronting and relieving — a reminder that many of the coping strategies I developed throughout life were not flaws, but adaptations.

It’s also reminded me of something important: Before we can reach for purpose, creativity, or connection, our basic survival needs must feel stable.

Safety.
Rest.
Nourishment.

Only when the nervous system believes we are safe can it allow us to truly move forward.

The Virgo Eclipse and the Hermit

Interestingly, the Virgo Full Moon Eclipse arriving this week reflects this same theme.

Virgo is the archetype of discernment — the ability to notice what is real and what is simply anticipation.

In the tarot reading this week, the Hermit archetype appeared strongly.

The Hermit isn’t about isolation.

It’s about quiet wisdom.

The part of us that pauses long enough to ask a different question:

“What is actually happening right now?”

Instead of living in the endless mental loop of “What if?”

From “What If” to “What Is”

When the nervous system senses uncertainty, it often moves into a survival pattern I call the “What If” state.

Thought loops begin:

What if something goes wrong?
What if I’m not ready?
What if I fail?

Biologically, this state is driven by cortisol, the hormone associated with threat detection.

It can create:

• mental anticipation
• physical tension or bracing in the body
• the feeling of constantly preparing for impact

Many people experience this tension in the lower body — the energetic territory often associated with the root chakra.

But there is another option.

The shift begins with a simple question:

“What is actually happening right now?”

This interrupts the stress loop and signals safety to the nervous system.

Instead of bracing, the body begins to move toward:

• grounded observation
• biological resilience
• presence and fluidity

This is where creativity, intuition, and clarity return.

For the Highly Sensitive Souls

To those who feel the world deeply — the ones who sense the “cosmic weather” before anyone else — this moment may feel especially intense.

The invitation isn’t to push harder.

It’s to anchor yourself through simple rituals.

Movement.
Breath.
Journaling.
Nature.
Sound.

These practices aren’t escapism.

They are ways of returning the nervous system to coherence.

Personal Milestones

On a personal note, this season has also brought some beautiful moments of grounding.

A recent trip to Bali reminded me how powerful it is to reconnect with people who see you clearly and love you for exactly who you are.

In the spirit of the “final shedding” many of us have been navigating, I’ve also been able to release habits that had kept me stuck for more than twenty years.

Academically, I’m also proud to share that I recently received a High Distinction in statistics in my Bachelor of Psychological Science — a reminder that discipline, curiosity, and intuition can coexist beautifully.

The “boss within” is becoming clearer.

And for the first time in a long time, I feel ready to create from that place.

The Reading for This Week

If you’d like to explore these themes further, I’ve shared a collective tarot reading for the Virgo Full Moon Eclipse below.

In the reading we explore the energy of discernment, justice, and celebration — the moment when inner clarity begins to translate into real change.

Are You Ready to Find Your Own Baseline?

If this resonates with you, you’re welcome to explore your own pathway toward coherence.

I’m currently offering:

Complimentary Coherence Calls — a short introduction to HeartMath and nervous system regulation
1:1 Personal Mentoring — a 5-week program to build your own resilience practices
Tarot & Energy Readings — virtual or in-person sessions for deeper guidance

Whatever path you take, remember:

The shift from survival to sacred safety doesn’t happen overnight.

It happens through small moments of returning to yourself.

And every time you do that, coherence grows.
